The City of Calgary has released the results of an Environics Research study that examined Calgarians' attitudes regarding the legalization of recreational cannabis.
The City of Calgary has released the results of an Environics Research study that examined Calgarians’ attitudes regarding the legalization of recreational cannabis. This study explored a wide range of issues related to how cannabis will be regulated by municipal governments, including:
- Expectations regarding public consumption rules and enforcement
- Attitudes regarding how cannabis-related businesses are sited and zoned
- Expectations regarding operating hours for cannabis retailers
- Attitudes towards home growing of cannabis
- Views on how cannabis taxes will be shared with municipalities
The study also included a segmentation of Calgary residents based on their attitudes towards cannabis legalization and their underlying social values.
Study Methodology
This study included a telephone survey with a randomly selected sample of 1,002 Calgarians, five focus groups with Calgary residents, and 30 in-depth interviews with individuals planning to become involved in producing and/or selling legal cannabis.
