TPSB Environics Research Will Conduct Public Consultation as Part of Chief Selection Process

Environics will be conducting public consultations on behalf of the Toronto Police Services Board as part of the Chief selection process.

As part of the Toronto Police Services Board’s Chief selection process, Environics Research will be conducting a series of public consultations on behalf of the Board. These consultations, the most extensive for a Chief selection process that the Board has organized to date, will provide opportunities for people across the City to share input on this topic, ensuring that a diverse range of voices is heard.

Given the current pandemic guidelines, these consultations will take place virtually.

Public consultation forums have been scheduled for residents of Etobicoke, Downtown Toronto, Scarborough and North York as follows:
Dates and Times


  • Etobicoke

    – Tuesday, March 30 – 6-8PM

  • Downtown Toronto

    – Wednesday, March 31 – 6-8PM

  • Scarborough

    – Wednesday, April 7 – 6-8PM

  • North York

    – Tuesday, April 13 – 6-8PM

About the Chief Selection Process

The Toronto Police Services Board recognizes that the selection of Chief is one of the most important decisions it makes. As the Board, Service and City continue to reimagine community safety and modernize, the next Chief will play a critical role in leading the dedicated Members of the Service.

The Board’s process has been informed by recent Board and City Council decisions concerning policing reform and enhanced community engagement in the Chief selection process. Board Chair Jim Hart emphasized that “the search has been designed to be independent and wide-ranging, and grounded in public engagement and consultation. Especially in a time of heightened engagement around important policing issues, the Board is focused on ensuring that the public is consulted meaningfully as part of this process, and looking to most effectively engage the diverse voices of Toronto in identifying the qualities and priorities that the people of Toronto want to see in their next Chief of Police.”
