Accelerate ZEV & Environics Research – Canada can lead EV supply chain

We partnered with Accelerate to survey Canadians on the country’s electric vehicle supply chain. The study found strong public support across all components of the EV ecosystem but highlighted uncertainty about Canada’s ability to deliver.

Globe & Mail Feature – Oct 14th 2025

At Environics Research, we’re proud to have partnered with Accelerate to explore how Canadians view the country’s role in building a domestic electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Our national survey of more than 2,000 Canadians revealed strong support for nearly every component of the EV ecosystem, including critical-mineral mining and processing, EV component and battery manufacturing, and charging infrastructure. While enthusiasm for this emerging industry is clear, our research also reveals public uncertainty about whether Canada will realize its potential to lead in this space.

As the federal government pivots to “climate competitiveness” and pursuing Canada’s low-carbon objectives through our industrial and economic choices, the emerging EV industry can be a big part of that. For this to be successful, it is important to know where the Canadian public stands and how to help them understand the value of the EV supply chain.

The findings point to an important challenge for policymakers and industry leaders: Canadians recognize the opportunity but remain skeptical about the country’s ability to deliver. As conversations about tariffs, trade relationships, and climate competitiveness continue, understanding this public sentiment will be vital for charting a sustainable path forward.
