Sagen and Environics Research – 2025 Homeowner Trends & Financial Fitness Study

Environics Research supported Sagen and the Canadian Association for Financial Empowerment on the 2025 Homeowner Trends and Financial Fitness Study, understanding how Canadians are viewing homeownership and their overall financial readiness.

Sagen’s 2025 Homeowner Trends & Financial Fitness Study – Nov 6th, 2025

Environics Research supported Sagen and the Canadian Association for Financial Empowerment on the 2025 Homeowner Trends & Financial Fitness Study, which explores how Canadians aged 25–45 view homeownership and financial readiness. The study surveyed more than 2,000 Canadians who recently purchased a home or plan to buy one soon. Results show that while first-time buyers remain financially stronger than the average Canadian, first-time intenders are increasingly cautious, with half delaying their purchase plans due to economic uncertainty. The findings also highlight growing reliance on family support, increased use of First Home Savings Accounts, and shifting preferences toward longer mortgage amortizations.

While recent first-time homebuyers remain financially confident, more future intenders have delayed their homebuying timelines as home prices, interest rates and economic uncertainty evolve. Future conditions will be bright as these buyers fully plan to buy when they feel confident.
