Egale Canada commissioned Environics Research on national study on 2SLGBTQI inclusion in Canada
Environics Research conducted a national public opinion survey on behalf of Egale Canada exploring Canadians’ perspectives on misinformation, healthcare, education, recreational sport, and safety for 2SLGBTQI communities.
Egale Canada has released Rights, Safety, and Belonging: 2SLGBTQI Inclusion in Canada, a national opinion research report developed in partnership with Environics Research. The study examines how Canadians view key issues affecting 2SLGBTQI communities, including misinformation, access to healthcare, inclusion in education, participation in recreational sport, and overall safety and belonging.
The study was conducted online by Environics Research between April 21 and May 1, 2026. The national survey gathered perspectives from 1,529 Canadians aged 18 and older, with representation across provinces, age groups, and sex. The findings point to a clear public recognition that more work is needed to advance 2SLGBTQI inclusion and safety across many areas, with more than half of Canadians believe Canada still has work to do before 2SLGBTQI people can be fully safe and free to be themselves.
The report arrives at a moment when public conversations about artificial intelligence, online safety, and the spread of misinformation are becoming increasingly urgent. Many Canadians continue to express concern about the difficulty of distinguishing credible information from false or misleading content, particularly in digital spaces where harmful narratives can spread quickly.
Through this research, Egale Canada aims to deepen public understanding of the issues affecting 2SLGBTQI people and identify opportunities to strengthen education, digital literacy, and community safety. While the survey represents a snapshot of current public sentiment, its findings provide important evidence to support ongoing advocacy, public education, and collaborative action.
