Environics Research Survey Finds Close To Half Of GTHA Emerging Leaders* Reported Experiencing Racism And/Or Discrimination In Past Year
*Emerging Leaders refers to participants in CivicAction’s Emerging Leaders Network
TORONTO/CNW/ –
A new survey by the CivicAction Leadership Foundation and Environics Research finds that close to half of participants (45%) in a survey of emerging leaders in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area report they have experienced racism and/or discrimination in the past year. Close to half of respondents (45%) also felt they had to change something about their identity in order to fit in. This comes on the heels of new census data that says a majority of Toronto residents identify as visible minorities.
“In a region home to over 200 ethno-cultural backgrounds, these results come as a clear sign that we have more work to do to make this an inclusive region for all,” said Sevaun Palvetzian, CEO, CivicAction.
